I have taught tobacco regulation and other health politics courses at the Johns Hopkins University. I am founding director of the Democracy Institute, a politically independent think tank based in London and Washington DC. Previously, I served as a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, where currently I am an adjunct scholar. Prior to joining Cato, I served as founding director of the Social Affairs Center at the Fraser Institute, where I led the Institute’s tobacco regulation research.
I have written, lectured, and commentated extensively about regulation of the tobacco, food, and gambling industries, and am coauthor of the British bestseller, Diet Nation: Exposing the Obesity Crusade, published by London’s Social Affairs Unit.
My articles have appeared in the British Medical Journal, the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, New York Post, Forbes, Sunday Telegraph (UK), and The Independent (UK). I am a political analyst on radio and TV, including the BBC, CNBC, Sky News, CTV News (Canada), and ABC Radio (Australia). I wrote my doctorate at Cambridge University.
